OneDrive is a blast to use on iOS. Itâs well-designed, syncs files easily, and integrates perfectly with the Files app. And for the most part, OneDrive works without any issues thanks to iOSâs excellent app management capabilities. But just like with any other app, there are times when things turn ugly.
If Microsoftâs cloud storage starts to function abnormally, you donât have to take drastic action such as removing and reinstalling the app to set things straight. Instead, all you need to do is to clear the OneDrive cache. So letâs see how and when you should go about doing that.
OneDrive by Microsoft provides a secure and hassle-free way to keep your data safe on its dedicated cloud. Initially, it offers 5 GB of free data to its users and allows them to sync their phones and other devices with the drive.

On every platform, OneDrive caches a certain amount of data locally to speed things up â recently used files, placeholder icons, thumbnails, etc. However, redundant data can often cause the app to become sluggish or malfunction (more on that further below), hence the need to clear the cache.
Thankfully, the OneDrive app for iOS features a built-in option that lets you do that, but it's somewhat hidden from view. Hence, you need to dive briefly into the OneDrive Settings panel whenever you need to use it.
Note: Clearing the cache doesnât remove any files that youâve opted to keep offline.
Step 1: On the OneDrive for iOS app, tap the Profile icon to the upper-left corner of the screen.
Step 2: On the menu that shows up, tap Settings.
Step 3: Scroll down to the More section, and then tap Advanced.
Step 4: Tap Clear Cache. You should be greeted with a spinning circle to indicate that the OneDrive is clearing the cache. Once it disappears, youâve successfully removed the cache.
Head back, and you should find a much stable and smooth experience with the OneDrive app.

Usually, iOS is pretty adept at managing the caches of all installed apps â hence the reason why it doesnât feature a system-based manual cache-clearing mechanism like on Android. However, that doesn't mean your apps function in top shape all the time. Below are a handful of OneDrive-related issues that a good cache-clearing should resolve.
OneDrive Uses Too Much Space
One of the prime reasons to clear the OneDrive cache occurs when the app starts to use too much space. Provided that you havenât chosen to keep too many large files offline, OneDrive occupying multiple gigabytes on your iPhone or iPad usually indicates a cache storage that has gone out of control.
You can check how much space OneDrive occupies by opening the iOS Settings app, and then tapping General -> iPhone/iPad Storage -> OneDrive.
If the Documents & Data section displays a huge figure, then clear the OneDrive cache and things should be back to normal.
Files Donât Upload
Another reason why you may want to clear the OneDrive cache is when certain files fail to upload correctly, or loops endlessly during the Uploading phase. A clean cache presents a fresh slate that OneDrive can then begin to work with, and any adamant files should upload without issue.
Images Donât Sync
OneDriveâs Camera Upload feature presents an alternate way to back up and sync photos, especially if dealing with iCloud confuses you. Like when running into issues during regular file uploads, there comes that time when your photos fail to sync. Clear the OneDrive cache, and you should be good to go.
OneDrive Crashes Frequently
That should rarely happen, but if OneDrive starts to crash all too often on your iPhone or iPad, then clearing the cache should remove any outdated files and redundant forms of data causing the issue.
Canât Store Files Offline
If OneDrive fails to honor a request to keep a file offline and gets stuck while downloading, thatâs another reason to clear the cache.
Also, consider doing it for instances when you cannot open files stored on OneDrive directly from inside another app. Note: As mentioned earlier, clearing the OneDrive cache won't remove any files stored offline. If you are looking for a way to get rid of them, you need to use the Remove From Offline option after tapping the Ellipsis (three-dot) icon for each downloaded file.
Files App Changes Don't Carry Over
Have you added OneDrive as a storage location to the Files app? If you don't find any changes to files and folders done through the Files app reflected within the OneDrive app, clearing the cache should force the latter to update itself.

So, that's how you should go about clearing the cache on OneDrive for iOS. But remember â donât do it just for the sake of it. You are slowing down the app if you resort to tapping that Clear Cache option all the time.
Let iOS do its magic at managing the OneDrive cache automatically, and take action yourself only when things start to get tricky.

All Windows installations come preinstalled with OneDrive. Microsoft's cloud storage solution that integrates with the Office 365 suite of apps. But not everyone is using OneDrive to store their files. Not everyone is using Office apps like Word. It makes sense for these users to uninstall or remove OneDrive from Windows 10.
Microsoft doesn't want you to uninstall OneDrive, or even Cortana and some other apps, for that matter. The process of disabling OneDrive is pretty simple. However uninstalling it completely will require a deeper look and additional steps.
Let's begin.
Why Should You Uninstall OneDrive
There are a few reasons why you should consider uninstalling OneDrive completely from your Windows installation if you are not using it:
These are just a few of the many possible reasons.

You can easily unlink or uninstall Microsoft OneDrive from your computer. That is what most people do when they want to uninstall an app, and it works well, except in the case of OneDrive. That will uninstall the app but won't remove it completely from your PC.
After you remove it, the icon will disappear from the Taskbar's Notification area. Theproblem is that you will still find the traces of OneDrive like the empty OneDrive folder in FileExplorer under your Windows username folder. Though it is harmless, some users might not want it. There are ways to fix that too.
Many people recommend using Revo Uninstaller for removing all traces of apps from Windows computers, and it works like a charm. The app also has a dedicated section for Windows apps, even in the free version. But,it failed to find and list OneDrive in my case.
Still, I will recommend Revo Uninstaller instead of Control Panel because it digs deep and removes even registry entries from the app's system in question. I use it to uninstall any apps from my system.
Note: Once OneDrive has been unlinked/uninstalled,you can safely delete any leftover files on your computer. Deleting them on your computer won't delete them on OneDrive's server.
Registry Editor Trick
This trick is for when you can still witness the empty OneDrive folder after uninstalling OneDrive from your computer.
Step 1: Search for and open Registry Editor from the Start menu with admin rights
Step 2: Drill down to the folder structure below. You can also copy-paste the path.
Double-click on System.IsPinnedToNameSpaceTree file to open it.
Step 3: Set the Value data to 0 (zero) instead of 1. Save all changes and reboot your computer.
The empty OneDrive folder should disappear from your File Explorer.

Use GPE if Registry Editor fails to work. Note that GPE is available on Windows' Pro and Enterprise editions only. It's an advanced and very powerful app. Caution is recommended while using it.
Step 1: Search for and open the GPE from the Start menu.

Step 2: Drill down to the folder structure below.
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > OneDrive
Double-click on 'Prevent the usage of OneDrive for file storage' to open it.
Step 3: Select Enabled in the pop-up that follows and save settings. Reboot your computer to witness if OneDrive is still visible in the File Explorer.
Note: Some users have reported that they continue toview empty OneDrive folder in File Explorer after editing GPE.Reinstall OneDrive from Microsoft Store. Even though the app isinstalled, you won't notice any traces while using OneDrive normally inFile Explorer, camera roll, or anywhere else. This is counter-intuitive but it is what it is, thanks to Microsoft.
Removing Leftover Files
Use the below commands in the Command Prompt only when you are sure you don't want to use OneDrive on that computer ever. These commands will remove leftover files and registry keys associated with OneDrive. I strongly recommend you take a backup of the Registry Editor before moving on. Creating a restore point should also work.
These commands will remove keys that shows OneDrive in the navigation pane in the File Explorer.

Following the above steps should have uninstalled Microsoft OneDriveor disabled it completely. You shouldn't notice it in theFile Explorer or anywhere else while using the computer daily. That's as far as you can go with OneDrive.
Microsoft makes it incredibly hard to uninstall OneDrive in thetraditional sense, like how we uninstall other apps on the fly. Thereason is pretty simple. It is a freemium app that connects with many other Office 365 apps, which is further part of the Microsoft 365suite now.
In a way,OneDrive works much like Google Drive. It acts as acontainer or space to save all files related to all Microsoft apps that you use. Frankly, I like OneDrive, especially the Personal Vault feature, and wish Google offered something like that too. While I understand the urge to get rid of it for those who don't use it, I recommend you just unlink the account and uninstall the app. You don't want to break thecore functionality of the OS because Microsoft seems to be trying toohard to push it.
